Onana edges closer to exit as Man Utd move for Antwerp goalkeeper

Manchester United close in on €20m deal for Antwerp goalkeeper Senne Lammens as Onana future comes into focus

Manchester United are advancing in negotiations to sign Royal Antwerp goalkeeper Senne Lammens in a deal worth around €20 million, raising further questions about Andre Onana’s long-term role at Old Trafford.

According to The Guardian, United officials have held positive talks with Antwerp, with confidence growing that an agreement can be reached before the transfer window closes. Lammens, 23, recently earned his first senior Belgium call-up and previously developed at Club Brugge before moving to Antwerp.

Onana, meanwhile, is expected to remain at the club this summer but will face direct competition for his starting place. The Cameroonian has endured a turbulent spell since joining from Inter Milan, mixing standout saves with costly errors, while United’s goalkeeping depth was further exposed after Altay Bayindir’s mistake in the recent clash with Arsenal.

The club’s push for a new goalkeeper also takes into account Onana’s expected absence during the Africa Cup of Nations, which begins on December 24.

Beyond the goalkeeping situation, United are still seeking exits for several players including Antony, Jadon Sancho, Tyrell Malacia, Rasmus Højlund and Alejandro Garnacho, with Ruben Amorim urging the squad to accelerate departures before the deadline.
